Fostering a Culture of Welcome in Germany

For more than a decade, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation has been working with various partners to stablish and foster a “culture of welcome” in Germany. As global competition to court the best minds continues to grow, talented researchers can choose in which country they wish to continue their careers. Apart from an attractive salary and an inspiring academic environment, “soft factors” play an increasingly important role in choosing a suitable location. The Humboldt Foundation fosters the establishment of a “culture of welcome” in Germany in order to attract researchers and their families, support them in their preparations and throughout their stay, and to maintain long-term relations after their stay has finished. So far, these Humboldt initiatives have furthered these aims:

Our brochure "Willkommenskultur in Deutschland schaffen - 10 Jahre Ideenwettbewerbe bei der Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung" ("Creating a Culture of Welcome in Germany – 10 Years of Ideas Competitions at the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation") contains the most important information on these three successful initiatives over the past ten years.
