Humboldt Research Fellowship

Information for Hosts

Any academic actively working at a research institution in Germany (university, non-university research institute) may host a Humboldt research fellow. If a fellowship is granted, the Humboldt Foundation pays the host an allowance for research costs amounting to 800 EUR per month for research fellows from the natural sciences and engineering and 500 EUR for humanities scholars.

Agreement must be reached with you in advance on the research proposal which should be drawn-up by the applicant independently. Detailed information should be provided on the subject, methods, aims, time-schedule as well as on the academic literature on which the project will be based. Research plans, which do not take sufficient account of agreements on contents, methods and time-schedule usually lead to the application being rejected. Apart from academic publications and the expert reviews, the research plan is the most important basis for the selection committee to assess the application. Consequently, the selection committee places special emphasis on ensuring that the research plan has been drawn-up by the applicant independently and not proposed by you, the host, either in total or in part.

The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation requests you to submit a confidential statement, which is very important both for the evaluation procedure and for the Selection Committee, and signed confirmation that research facilities can be made available.

The applicant should provide you with the documents required to prepare your statement (research plan, curriculum vitae, list of publications, publications and the names of expert reviewers). Please observe the list of questions for the host's statement and answer the questions in detail in the order given. Please sign the Confirmation of research facilities, too. You can rest assured that your statement will be treated confidentially by the Humboldt Foundation administration and the selection committee.

If the applicant wishes to carry out the research project at two host institutions, separate statements and confirmation of research facilities must be provided by each host institute.

Please bear in mind that the Humboldt Foundation's administration can only initiate the external peer review procedure once your statement has been received. It is, therefore, possible to submit your statement and confirmation of research facilities separately from the application itself and send them directly to the:
